To Ngoc Thanh, the son of late great painter To Ngoc Van, has introduced his 34 oil paintings which depict the beauty of Sapa to HCM City’s audiences. Thanh was born in 1940 in Hanoi. In 1946, his family evacuated to Viet Bac military base, where the Fine Art College was located. His father, To Ngoc Van, is the first rector of the college. Thanh began painting at the age of 4. As he spent his childhood in the northern mountain region, he has drawn many paintings about landscapes in this region. Returning to Hanoi in 1954, the painter has returned to the northwestern region very often to draw paintings. He said he cannot paint Sapa when he is in Hanoi. Thus, he spent a lot of time in Sapa. Since 1982, Thanh has participated in many solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. He has won many painting prizes. His paintings are displayed at the Vietnam Art Museum, Asia-Pacific Art Museum in Poland and collected by many collectors. His “Sapa Impression” exhibition will last until September 28, at Tu Do Gallery, 53 Ho Tung Mau, District 1, HCM City. Romantic Sapa in To Ngoc Thanh’s paintings:
